Our aim is to make you look and feel good every day while reducing our impact on the environment. And that starts with the first thing you put on in the morning to prepare for a special occasion. From our people, to how each product is made, we’re committed to a more ethical, more sustainable way to forward. We know this will be challenging but we are on the journey.

OUR SUPPLY CHAIN

We are working with our partners in our supply chain to produce and deliver our high quality garments in a way that is ethical and considerate of the environment.

Our supply chain starts from raw materials and manufacturing through to delivering our products to our warehouses.

Our products are produced in factories across China, Bangladesh, India and Cambodia. All of our suppliers are required to adhere to our Ethical Code of Conduct and we are work with our suppliers and 3rd party auditors to monitor compliance with this code.

We are actively investigating ways to improve our visibility, traceability and compliance deeper into our supply chain down to the fabric mills and raw material sources. This is the next step in our responsible sourcing journey.

MODERN SLAVERY

We recognise that the biggest risk for Modern Slavery in our business is within our overseas supply chain.

All of our factories are required to adhere to our Ethical Code of Conduct.

We do not accept any form of forced or child labor and are committed to safeguarding against modern slavery within our business and supply chain.

We do this through procedures such as regular monitoring of suppliers with ethical audits and unannounced inspections via an independent 3rd party , providing supplier training, and providing workers access to our grievance hotline.

We partner with Be Slavery Free to work together towards reducing the risk of Modern Slavery from our supply chain.

CLOTHING & TEXTILE WASTE

We donate unsold first quality garments to charities such as Thread Together and Red Cross to ensure they get to people in need. We send any remaining textile waste to UPPAREL to recycle or repurpose, preventing it from going to landfill.

IN STORE

We have replaced single-use plastic bags in our stores to FSC certified paper bags.

ONLINE

Our online satchels are made using 100% recycled plastic making up 95% of the total online satchel packaging.

PRODUCT PACKAGING

We continue to explore more efficient packaging solutions throughout our supply chain. Where we are unable to reduce packaging, we are working on transitioning to use recycled materials instead.

In addition, we are consolidating our shipments for maximum efficiency and to help reduce our carbon footprint.

SWING TAGS

Our Johnny Bigg swing tags are made with FSC card and our woven labels on each garment are made from 100% recycled yarn.

ORGANIC COTTON

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a lower impact on the environment when compared with conventional cotton.

There are many benefits in using organic cotton:

  1. In some cases it can use less water and energy than conventional cotton
  2. It is grown using seeds that are not genetically modified It does not use pesticides or harmful chemicals which means cleaner, air, better water and water usage and
better soil
  3. It is a safer work environment for the farmer and their families as only approved chemicals and non-synthetic pesticides can be used.
  4. It is handpicked rather than machine picked which
may help protect the cotton fibre from damage
  5. It is certified and traceable through the internationally recognised Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
and Organic Cotton Standard (OCS) which means it
can assist in tracing the cotton back to the source.
  6. In line with US legislation Johnny Bigg has banned the
use of cotton from the Xinjiang region in our products.
The purpose of this legislation is to reduce the risk of cotton being produced by force labour.

RECYCLED POLYESTER

Johnny Bigg is committed to further increasing our use of certified recycled polyester. The aim is that by 2026, more than 50% of our polyester will be recycled. All recycled polyester must be fully traced with the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) Certification. Johnny Bigg use this to guarantee the authenticity of the recycled content in the fibre. Polyester represents about 15% of our raw material usage per annum.

LINEN

Linen is biodegradable and made from flax plant fibres making it a sustainable raw material option. Linen is very strong and absorbent, dries quickly and is comfortable to wear in hot weather.

ECOVERO VISCOSE BY LENZING

More than 50% of the viscose contained in our garments use EcoVero viscose. The EcoVero viscose fibre is made from wood. The wood is taken from nature and is carefully sourced from responsibly managed forests and is certified meeting FSC (Forest Sustainable Card) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).

There are many benefits in using EcoVero viscose:

  1. Uses at least 50% less water than generic viscose
  2. Lowers carbon emissions to the air we breathe
by at least 50% less compared to generic viscose
  3. The EcoVero fibres are biodegradable in the soil, freshwater and marine environments as well as being compostable under home and industrial conditions.

At Johnny Bigg we believe collaboration is key. We partner with numerous charities including Beyond Blue and the Red Cross and other organisations to help achieve our commitment to being a more sustainable, ethical, and environmentally friendly business.
